  21. Funny, I've used a 38400 port speed and not gotten any errors on a Mac SE 
  22. with an original 7.8Mhz 68000 and run MacWeb and other programs on it 
  23. through a PPP connection with no errors at all. 57600 occasionally (but 
  24. rare) gets errors on the IIsi (and probably other non-DMA macs) if 
  25. there's a lot of Virtual Memory swapping going on.

  35. This is correct.  Most mac serial cables don't support DTR hangup,
  36. so the PC defaults wont work as well.

  41. Close - the problem does sound like DTR was going low and making the modem 
  42. hang up, which would imply PC settings instead of Mac settings, but has 
  43. nothing to do with the handshaking.  26.4K/24K is actually a good speed 
  44. if you are using Southern Bell or similar quality phone lines.
